Info on squats. [Sep. 26th, 2009|09:42 am]
Portland Oregon Activism

shane_mayhem
So, I'm looking for information about squatting in the U.S. I have to admit that I'm really, really uninformed about the subject. Are there any articles/laws that someone could point me to?
More specifically, I'd like to know if there is any form of legalized squatting in the U.S., such as the Wagenplätzen in Berlin. (wagon camps)

I know that Portland has a few housing co-ops, but are there any community squats in the city? Thanks for any info!

Peaceful Protest [Mar. 22nd, 2009|02:48 am]

I made several posts about madscience's unfair ban in the community anarchists, all of which were met with sarcastic, if not down right nasty remarks towards me and my idea. Yeah, well SCREW YOU people. I'm going to keep fighting to have madscience reinstated as a community member, and maybe even MODERATOR of anarchists.
This Friday, March 27th at 3:00PM, myself and other true PDX anarchists will be meeting at the Mcdonalds on 18th and Burnside to have burgers and talk about what we can do to get our fellow Portlander back into the community. Anyone who wants to stop in, have a bite and do a peaceful protest, feel free to show up!

Thanks,
Concerned Portlander-

I Can't Fucking Believe This Shit! [Mar. 19th, 2009|07:33 am]

Hey guys. Long time lurker, first time poster here.

I belong to a lot of different communities here on Live Journal and recently I saw something I just couldn't believe.

It happened in anarchists and it's rattled me from my self imposed silence and spurred me to speak out on the subject.

Portland's very own madscience was a long time contributor to that community. Just yesterday, the mod of the community, a supposed "anarchist" banned him from commenting. While they said it was because he was "making a plethora of thinly veiled provocatory threats over the span of his time here". This is absolute BULL SHIT. Honestly, I think it's because she/it couldn't handle a strong stance on such subjects and isn't actually serious about their "anarchist outlook".

I won't take this lying down. Soon I'll be starting an online petition/guest book for everyone to sign in order to have him reinstated to the community. Hopefully as a mod even.

I'll link everyone to it once it's done. Until then I suggest you all come together for this obvious crime against another human being.

repost:

Listen Up!

wyatt riot, local homoheartthrob / dental assistant is putting on a radical dental skill share!!!!

Learn how you can:
*%*Improve your Oral health - -practice home dental self-care - - perfect your flossing / brushing technique - - and More*%*

(there might even be dental self-care goodie bags if you're sweet)

check it:

wyatt riot is a dental assistant who has worked in a private dental office in se pdx for two years. this nerdy queer bird graduated from apollo college in 2007 and enjoys learning about oral health and teaching people about it -- or sharing gross stories. he feels that there is not enough knowledge about oral health that is reachable to the general public and feels this should change. he is not a dentist and everything he says is not a "professional opinion" so - remember that kids.

u into it? Thought so.

so we need to know:

a) that you're into coming!
b) what do you want to learn? what questions / concerns / interests re: oral health care do you have?
z) what time works best for you? wednesdays around 5pm or saturdays around 1pm?

get back to me asap so we can set the date and make it happen.

Sorry if this doesn't belong here, but my friend Jenna (a.k.a. trashcan_chica) needs some help:

"does anyone know of any queer zines about living in rural areas or going to rural areas?

any help/pointing in the right direction would be amazing. i went through the whole Queer Zine Archive and couldn't really find anything.

thanks!
jenna b

p.s. i just got a wordpress site, sassyfrasscircus.com!"

Her (AIM) away message also says: "is looking for zines about/by members of radical queer ANTI-URBAN communities, so if you know of any..."

So please comment if you can help at all; thanks. :]

Pet-Friendly Homeless Shelters? [Nov. 8th, 2008|08:09 pm]
Portland Oregon Activism

rae_beta
Today, I met a woman at a bus stop who was in a really rough place: she's homeless and can't find a shelter that'll let her stay with her cat. It's more important to her to stay with the cat than to get inside--she's got some pretty serious mental health problems, and it's functionally a therapy animal, but because she doesn't have the official paperwork saying so, no dice. The cat itself is super sweet and obviously well cared for.

I'm bringing her some blankets and cat food tomorrow, and I figured that in the meantime, since I have access to the internets and a phone, I can hunt around for potentially useful resources. I've tried the PWCL, who thought Transition Projects or JOIN might be worth a shot; any other ideas?
