Stop anti-Muslim DVD release TOMORROW! [Sep. 27th, 2008|05:37 pm]
Portland Oregon Activism

Hey there. In case you haven't heard, the Oregonian is planning to release that anti-Muslim DVD with tomorrow's newspaper; from what others are saying about this DVD it is a "fact-finding"-type thing disguised as an educational DVD about Muslims. Why the hell something like this would even be released as "educational" is beyond me, but apparently it's pretty damaging and has been condemned by the Council on American-Islamic Relations. Below is an article about it. The Oregonian comment line is 503-276-7270; you can call and leave a <60 second message about why you (hopefully) believe that this kind of thing doesn't have a place being distributed by a newspaper.

Last Last-Minute shout out! [Aug. 1st, 2008|10:47 pm]

So, my travelling partner for The Climate Change Convergence backed out, leaving me to fill a Subaru wagon all by my lonesome! Is anyone else going/wanting to go down for the weekend? I also have a tent in which two, perhaps three, people who don't know each other very well could comfortably sleep. I'm leaving tomorrow morning and probably only able to stay through Sunday evening. Anyone? Hello?

for those who feel left out by American Democracy™,
for those who can't be defined as "liberal" or "conservative",
for those who aren't satisfied with Obama or McCain,
for those who want to ditch the House of Representatives and represent themselves,
for those who feel powerless over even local issues,

i have something i think you should read: False Hope vs. Real Change (it's a PDF!)

FREE FOOD. [Apr. 28th, 2008|02:49 pm]

heyyyy. monday food not bombs is gonna kick off next week! cinco de mayo!

if ya don't already know, food not bombs is a kinda awkward name for a really cool thing: a world wide decentralized movement to feed people using food that would otherwise be thrown away. we get our food from donations and dumpsters and turn it into cool culinary creations. fruit salad and tofu scramble and stuff.

we're non-hierarchal and everyone's welcome to help out! if you bring food, bring an ingredients list, please. non-vegan foods are okay.

we're serving at 5:30 at the peninsula park rose garden, located at n. albina and ainsworth!

hey yalls. i just want to say that i love this community, even though it's barely used. i'd love to see it grow and be used more often. <3<3

here's a list of awesome events that i got from the Blue Heron Infoshop listserv. Blue Heron is located at Reed College, and welcomes visits from non-students (like me)! if you want to sign up for the listserv yourself, shoot an email to blue-heron-infoshop-subscribe@lists.reed.edu.
